The directors and staff at Dapol Model Railway Company, based in Chirk, kindly invited George and Sharon Powell to see the first, limited-edition ‘Gresford 266’ model coal-trucks roll off their production line, ahead of the product’s launch in 2024 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Gresford Colliery Disaster. Dapol will also generously gift the charity a substantial sum for each of these models sold. This donation will be used by the charity to help keep the Miners Rescue Station heated for the comfort of our numerous visitors and beneficiaries.
These 0-Gauge and 00-Gauge models represent the coal-trucks seen in the famous black & white photo when the families, friends and workmates waited pensively for news of the trapped miners after the fateful explosion on the 22nd September 1934.
Samantha Jones, the factory manager, and Alex Davies, production engineer, along with several co-workers, gave the group a guided tour of their extensive facilities, including a shop which is an ideal destination for all train buffs, young or old.
Dapol is the only remaining model railway company still producing high-spec models in the UK, and their sales network is global. These limited edition trucks are likely to be very sought after collectors’ items; but the Miners Rescue Station is now the proud custodian of Model No1 in both the 0-Gauge and 00-Gauge ranges. We hope our younger beneficiaries will create a model railway track within the MRS next year, when one model will be on permanent display, whilst the other takes centrepiece on the track.
International Donors: Our donations are in UK pounds through Gofundme. You can donate by entering the amount you wish to donate in UK pounds though will be charged the equivalent of that amount in your own currency. Gofundme do not charge conversion fees.
