OUR MINING HERITAGE

Explore Wrexham’s history of bravery and brotherhood

Free for all ages!

The Miners’ Museum takes you back in time to a world of bravery, resilience and brotherhood. Uncover the hidden stories of our mining past and the brave souls who shaped it. Learn about the working lives of the miners and the hardships they endured.

Delve into the daily lives of Wrexham’s miners. Experience the challenges they faced, marvel at the tools and equipment that defined their trade, and gain insights into the spirit and determination that fuelled their work. Discover how courageous rescue workers were trained in extreme conditions in this very building and how they risked their own lives underground to save others.

At the entrance to the museum is a memorial to one of Britain’s worst coal mining tragedies, the Gresford Colliery Disaster. A wall of bricks commemorates each of the 266 men and boys who died in the 1934 explosion. Learn about the deep-rooted links between Wrexham’s mining communities and the Miners Rescue Station, which acted as a lifeline to the mines in times of crisis. Read how local people came together in this time of need, demonstrating the unity that still defines our community today.
